Your first tea gathering.
Making room for a quiet moment.
Tea gatherings differ by school, host and purpose. Rather than trying to memorise every detail at once, begin by listening to the host and showing consideration for the people and space around you.

Read the information in advance
Check the meeting place, start time, dress guidance, what to bring and the photography policy provided by the host. Asking about any uncertainty beforehand can help you arrive at ease.
Dress neatly and move comfortably
There may be time seated on the floor or moving across tatami. Unless the event specifies otherwise, choose clean, understated clothing and shoes that are easy to remove. Consider avoiding strong fragrances.
Handle objects and the space with care
Follow any explanation from the host about handling tea bowls and utensils. When you are unsure, do not force a decision or touch something unnecessarily; simply ask.
Experience the gathering rather than seeking perfection
Greetings, conversation and photography can differ from one gathering to another. Follow the room and the host’s guidance, then notice the tea, tools and seasonal setting.
